Early menopause

Is this a thing?

Yes. Early menopause or POI, primary ovarian insufficiency, is when a woman's menstrual cycle terminates earlier than normal.

This will happen to 1 in 250 women who are younger than 35 and 1 in 100 women who are younger than 40 years of age.

POI can also be divided into two categories:

  • spontaneous POI - the body does this naturally
  • induced POI - might occur from the removal of ovaries or treatements like chemotherapy and radiation.

How can I help my symptoms?

Like normal menopause, there are many things that doctors can prescribe to help women with early menopause to help alleviate current symptoms and potential health issues in the future.
